He built a fortified hut among the Native Americans at the foot of Fort Hill for them to live in while he worked on a house across the river where the town would be. The first house was erected in the town in 1707 or 1708. About 193 years later house on 64 West Street was built. It was redone in 1995-1997. Do you want to see it inside?

 What's new in New Milford, CT

  • Old Grove gets face-lift - As the Grove Street/Route 67 project moves along just down the street, one of the New Milford's nearby streets is undergoing major reconstruction. Old Grove runs through a residential neighborhood and also happens to serve as a popular thoroughfare for hundreds of drivers traveling between Grove Street and Route 67. The road has been closed for several weeks now, however, as it is widened and curbing installed. Once the work is completed, Old Grove will be reopened for two-way traffic. The quarter-mile long street will be closed permanently at its intersection with Route 67, however, once the Grove/67 project is completed. Click here to see a map.

 

  • Data Collectors to inspect homes soon for town's revaluation

    During the next several months, data collectors from Vision Appraisal will be conducting inspections of properties in New Milford as part of the town's work for the 2010 revaluation of all real estate, as mandated by state statutes.

    Data collectors will ask permission to inspect, the interior of your home and any other buildings on your property.

    Photographs of properties will also be take. To ensure a home is inspected, a homeowner must sign a data collection form to verify the inspection. All data collectors will carry official photo identification and letter of introduction.

    Data collectors generally work Monday though Fridays between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m., with some additional weekend hours.

    Auto description and license plates will be filed with the local police department.
